Janelle @AdoptionToLife pairs up with Richard @Adoption.Adventures for a back-and-forth on what we’ve learned from adopting an older child from foster care in our respective countries.
If anyone is considering adopting from foster care, or even internationally where there is a chance to be placed with an older child, I would hope that you would take our experiences to heart. After talking with Richard, there is one thing we both strongly agree on: we’d like everyone to approach the adoption process with a greater sense of openness. For us, and for many others, this means expanding on your search parameters to include more diversity regarding the child’s age.

Richard and his husband, otherwise known as “Dad” and “Daddy” on the weekly podcast Adoption Adventures, adopted their son almost 8 years’ ago when he was just about to turn 7 years old. Richard describes the adoption as one of the best adventures he has ever been on. In the UK, Richard delivers training to prospective adopters and their families and supports them throughout their journeys.
